Dean Lukin lifting

Dean Lukin was born in Port Lincoln, South Australia on May 26th, 1960.  It was an Olympic year too, as the games were held in Rome, Italy that year.  It wasn’t long after I became interested in weightlifting that I clearly remember my youthful excitement that year (1960) as I looked at the morning edition of the Advertiser newspaper to find the results of the heavyweight weightlifting which had been held in Rome the previous night.  The Gold medal went to the great Soviet lifter Yuri Vlasov with those two great American lifters Norbert Schemansky and James Bradford second and third respectively (silver and bronze medals).  It is interesting to think that in twenty four years the same incredible drama would engulf Dean Lukin that had occurred in Rome, Italy, during the year of his birth, 1960.  He would be contesting the Super Heavyweight Division (over 110kg bodyweight) at the 1984 Olympic Games held in Los Anglels, California.
