Getting started is easy!
Lifters of all ages can enjoy being part of our community. Each club provides training facilities and all the equipment you need to get started.
Olympic weightlifters work to develop the skill, strength, speed, and power you need to perform your best snatch and clean and jerk in a competitive setting.
But there's more to it than that!
Why lift?
Get strong
Among rowers, gymnasts, track and field athletes, rugby players and much more - Olympic weightlifting is now widely recognised and used as ideal complementary training to anyone in any sport requiring strength and power. (Yes, that's pretty much every sport.)
We welcome CrossFit athletes. If your favourite place to stand is behind the barbell, we want you. If you find yourself cherry picking the metcon and gymnastic skill classes, we still want you. Compete to put your numbers on a national score board and watch your progress grow.
No matter your skill level, or your sporting background, a block of oly specific training will improve the way you perform.
Play fair
Be assured that everyone you compete with is playing fair. The SAWLA and Australian Weightlifting Federation are proudly aligned with Sport Integrity Australia and the World Anti-Doping Authority.
Have fun
Make new friends and try new experiences - lifting is fun, and lifters come from all walks of life.
